Socio-legal and Artificial Intelligence

The objectives of the Socio-Legal and Artificial Intelligence Research Group are the advancement of research aimed at developing theories and formal frameworks for modeling legal reasoning, the design of software prototypes that provide technological support for legal reasoning processes, and the organization and teaching of postgraduate seminars and courses in the interdisciplinary field of Artificial Intelligence and Law.

Our challenge is to build a bridge between Computer Science and Legal Studies, ensuring that each field is enriched by the perspective of the complementary discipline. Our goal is to establish a common language that enables seamless interaction between artificial intelligence and the philosophy of law. Furthermore, the insights from legal sociology and political science allow for a deeper analysis of the functioning of the legislative and judicial systems in our country.

The primary focus lies in the analysis and enhancement of the soundness of justifications within legal argumentation. In contrast, the application of probabilistic tools aimed at substituting human judgment in judicial decision-making falls outside the scope of interest.
