Image Sciences Lab

The Image Science Laboratory (LCI) is a pioneering research group in the fields of computer graphics, visualization, and image processing, and is currently recognized as a national academic and industrial reference in these areas. Its basic and applied research lines cover the full spectrum of digital imaging (including optical, RGB, medical, satellite, microscopy, radar, among others) and related disciplines and technologies, such as machine learning and deep learning.

LCI maintains active collaborations and academic exchanges with the Computer Graphics and Visualization Group at the Vienna University of Technology (Austria), the Department of Computer Science at the University of Jaén (Spain), the Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Cologne (Germany), the Department of Health Sciences at Carleton University (Canada), the Graduate Program in Computer Science and Statistics at the Federal University of Pernambuco (Brazil), and the Faculty of Agronomy at São Paulo State University (Brazil), as well as with various research institutes and groups across Argentina.

The group has published over 120 SCOPUS-indexed research papers and has supervised more than 20 doctoral dissertations defended at UNS and other prestigious universities. LCI is also a key contributor to the recently established PhD Program in Medical Imaging. It has a strong track record in technological development and in R&D&I collaborations with companies and institutions, having received multiple awards for technological innovation.
